1% for the Planet was created in 2002 by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard and Blue Ribbon Flies founder Graig Matthews.
Members donate 1% of their annual sales to environmental non profits. This means that every time you shop with Ryde you are automatically supporting people that are working tirelessly to create a healthier planet.
This is not a time limited offer or a sales pitch. This is our life long commitment as a company to support people making crucial changes that will help us all.
"The intent of 1% for the Planet is to help fund these diverse environmental organisations so that collectively they can be a more powerful source in solving the worlds problems.” - Yvon Chouinard
It's a grim statistic but only 1-2% of clothing is recycled — the rest is tossed into landfills, downcycled, or burned. Fast fashion is a buzz kill and something we ran away from at lightening speed when we were designing our range.
At Ryde we’re breathing new life into old gear – cutting down unnecessary waste and extending the life and closing the loop.
Our clothes are designed to last, but wear and tear can take its toll. When you’re finished with your Ryde coats, send them to us to be reused, repurposed and recycled at one of our supporting partners. You’ll get £15 store credit, avoid creating more waste on the planet, and help us close the loop. Happy days.
Whilst we are not perfect, we are constantly learning and trying our best to fully close the loop. We're starting slow so that we get this right. Currently we're only accepting trade ins on certain items, - with the first being outerwear but we'll be extending the scheme to our full range as soon as we're able.
To send in your old gear please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line 'Closing the Loop.' We will then send you a shipping label or offer local collection. When your product has reached our depot, we will issue you with a gift card via email. Please note: we are unable to process items that do not comply with the rules detailed below:

Before buying a coat I have several questions to ensure it was the right item for me. Customer service was spot on, friendly, and helped me make an educated decision. The Change Robe coat arrived swiftly and fitted perfectly! I chose a Medium and I'm 6ft2, the arms are perfect so they're not completely covering my hands but protect them enough from the elements or cover the cuffs of some gloves. I have to hunch my shoulders to make use of the fold over cuffs as my arms are too long but that probably wouldn't be the case if I got the size L but that really doesn't bother me personally. The two outside chest pockets don't fit my Google Pixel 6 Pro but it fits perfectly in the inside pocket so I can't complain. I'm so happy with the coat, it's really cosy, keeps me dry, and the length really helps with being protected from the wind. I mostly use it while helping my partner who owns a horse, so in the month I've had jacket I've been out in all weathers of the Midlands and it's been spot on. It's hard wearing too which is a bonus when helping around the yard so I'm not too worried about scuffs or scrapes. Whenever the weather takes a turn I go straight for the Change Robe because I know it'll keep me protected. I'm looking forward to buying more, I've got my eyes on a hoodie because I've only read great things 👀 Great customer service after purchasing to update me on delivery and to check I was getting on okay with the coat after I'd had it a few days. A great, friendly business that really cares for its customers 😊
Great product wash really nice and the different colours are lovely, highly recommend these socks
As a dog walker of 8 yrs I’ve tried and tested a lot of coats.
We’ve had 3 days of torrential rain since I got my Ryde coat and been nice and snug and dry. Other local pro dogs walkers have asked where I got my coat when seen me nice and dry. I know at least 1 has bought one as she messaged to say she was excited.
Worth investing in high quality jackets. Comfy & practical. Super fast delivery. Great communication from seller.
Great jacket I bought for dog walking and general winter walks. Great front pockets big enough for leads and poop bags! Big enough to use as a changing robe, waterproof and cosy enough for Scottish winters!
