General Cleaning Instructions

Ryde robes can be washed at a low temperature, with a maximum heat of 30°C. Cold washes are best for maintaining waterproofness. After washing, allow the robe to air dry naturally—avoid using a tumble dryer to preserve the waterproofing. Alternatively, for light cleaning, you can wipe the robe with a damp cloth. Please note that frequent washing can reduce the water-repellent properties over time, so we recommend washing only when necessary to maintain performance. Always avoid harsh detergents or fabric softeners, as these can also affect the waterproofing.

(Re) Waterproofing

Regular wear, washing, and exposure to the elements can diminish the coat’s water-repellent properties. To extend the life of your Ryde Robe, we recommend cleaning it on a low temperature and applying a durable water repellent (DWR) treatment as needed.

Heat is important to reactivating your waterproof clothing’s water-repellent properties. When you need to re-waterproof a coat, direct sunlight (if the weather is on side) or a trusty hairdryer works best. You can also use a hair dryer on a low to medium heat setting. Hold it a few inches away from the fabric and move it around to avoid overheating one spot.

If you don’t have any sunshine or a hairdryer, an iron is one of the best alternatives. Let your Robe fully air-dry and set your iron to low without steam. Place a thin, dry cloth or towel between your robe and iron away.

Alternatively, you can use a Nikwax spray-on product, which allows for re-waterproofing without the need for washing.
